Home Remedy of the Month
July 2009
Vinegar is a staple in everyone's home and it's in your pantry right now! Bet you didn't know just how great vinegar is for your health. You are probably already using vinegar for salad dressings and in some recipes but vinegar is one of the top home remedies. Vinegar has been used for thousands of years for ear disease, fat accumulation in the body, for digestion and for preventing scurvy. Much research has been done in modern times to see what vinegar does for the body and the health benefits are many. Are you buying your vinegar from the grocery store - you know the white vinegar that has been filtered because they took out all the good "stuff"? For home remedies, you want the apple cider vinegar that has the good stuff called the "mother" because that is what is so good for what ails you. So, stock your pantry with a quality apple cider vinegar such as Bragg's.
Vinegar is so good for you in so many ways. Vinegar affects the acid/alkaline balance in the body and is full of vitamins and minerals and potassium. When your body is acid, it favors bacterial growth. Apple cider vinegar sterilizes the effect of food poisoning - who knew??!! - prevents infection, enhances immune system function, helps muscles to contract and relax, is good for the stomach and digestion and heartburn, good for arthritis and the list goes on and on.
Vinegar is also good for what ails your skin. It's good on burns, itchy skin, age spots, warts, insect bites, blemishes, dandruff and more. Take 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a small dollop of honey in a little water in the morning and in the evening to help your body heal itself.

you ever wonder why baking soda works on odors in
your refrigerator? Well, it turns out that baking soda (sodium
bicarbonate) reacts with acids. Odor hits the baking soda and it is
neutralized and turned into salt permanently. Baking soda is
anti-inflammatory in skin conditions; it's alkaline and neutralizes
acid which makes it good for a diaper rash. To use, make a paste of
baking soda and water and apply to baby bottoms. Or use it to brush
up your pearly whites!
We
all know that tea is a nice relaxing drink but did
you know that tea has 200 active compounds in each cup that are
working in your body as you sip that cup of tea. Green tea is
anti-inflammatory, lowers blood cholesterol levels, has a beneficial
effect on circulation and the liver, protects against tooth decay
and detoxifies the blood. And, if you drink a lot of cups you
have to pee a lot - but we guess you already know that!
